Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually ask before and after creating their first alias.
The basics
What is email masking?
Email masking means using a forwarding address in place of your real one. Mail sent to the masked address is passed on to your inbox, so the sender never learns your actual address. Hskky provides these masked addresses, which we call aliases.
Is an email alias the same as a masked email?
In everyday use, yes. A masked email is an alias created specifically to hide your real address. Hskky aliases are masked emails on the hskky.com domain.
How is an alias different from a burner or temporary email?
Burner addresses usually expire within minutes or hours, so you lose access to anything sent later, like password resets. Many sites also block them. A Hskky alias keeps working until you choose to stop it. Read the full comparison.
Which email providers does Hskky work with?
Any provider that receives email, including Gmail, Outlook, iCloud Mail, Yahoo, Proton Mail and company mailboxes. There’s nothing to install.
Do I need to install an app or browser extension?
No. You create and manage aliases in the Hskky web app and use them like any other address.
Plans and billing
What’s included in the Free plan?
One active random alias, forwarding to one verified inbox, up to 30 forwarded emails per day, and attachments up to 5 MB. It doesn’t expire while active.
What does Plus add?
For $20 a year, Plus gives you up to 10 active aliases, custom alias names, up to three destination inboxes, no daily forwarding cap (subject to fair use) and attachments up to 25 MB.
Who handles payments?
Paddle.com is our Merchant of Record. Paddle processes payments, issues invoices and handles tax. Hskky never stores your card details.
What is the refund policy?
Ask within 14 days of buying or renewing Plus and you’ll receive a full refund, no questions asked. Refund policy.
What happens to my aliases if I cancel Plus?
When your paid year ends, the account returns to Free. You keep one active alias; the others are stopped and can be restored within two months if you upgrade again.
Aliases
Do aliases expire?
No. Active aliases keep forwarding for as long as you keep them active, on both plans.
What happens when I stop an alias?
Forwarding stops immediately. The alias is held for two months so you can reactivate it, then it’s permanently removed.
Why is there a limit on changing my free alias?
Free accounts can change aliases 2 times per rolling 30 days. Without a limit, automated scripts could generate endless aliases, which damages Hskky’s reputation with mail providers and hurts delivery for everyone.
Can I choose my own alias name?
Yes, on Plus. Names need at least six characters and can use lowercase letters, numbers, periods and hyphens.
Why can’t I use names like admin or support?
Names associated with running a service are reserved so no one can impersonate Hskky or mislead other people. The reserved list includes admin, support, security, abuse, postmaster, billing and helpdesk.
Can someone take my alias after I delete it?
Deleted custom names are locked permanently and never issued to anyone else, so your old address can’t be used to reset passwords on your accounts.
Privacy and security
Can senders see my real email address?
No, not through Hskky. They only see the alias. Your real address is revealed only if you reply from your own inbox or share it yourself.
Can I reply from my alias?
Not at the moment. Aliases are for receiving mail. Replies you send from your own inbox show your real address.
Does Hskky store my emails?
Messages pass through Hskky so they can be forwarded. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is kept, for how long, and why.
Does Hskky sell my data?
No. Hskky doesn’t sell personal data.
Does an alias encrypt my email?
No. An alias hides your address, not the content of messages. For sensitive conversations, use an end-to-end encrypted email provider as well.
How do I report an alias being used for abuse?
Use the contact form and choose “Report abuse”. Include the alias and what happened.
